Our Story

Designing Spaces That Transcend Time

Our Studio

Founded 2012

Started in a cramped office above a coffee shop on Queen West. Now we're still on Queen West, just with better coffee and more square footage.

Who We Are

Look, we're not your typical architecture firm that throws around words like "synergy" or "paradigm shift." We're just a bunch of designers who got tired of seeing the same cookie-cutter buildings pop up everywhere.

Back in 2012, three of us were working late nights at different firms, sketching ideas on napkins and complaining about how modern architecture seemed to forget that buildings exist across decades, not just Instagram feeds. So we did what any slightly reckless architects would do - we pooled our savings, rented a tiny space, and started ChronoInquester.

The name? Yeah, it's a bit pretentious, we'll admit. But the idea behind it isn't - we genuinely believe buildings should acknowledge their past while looking toward their future. A structure built today will exist for 50, 100, maybe 200 years. That's a responsibility we don't take lightly.

What started as three people and a dream (and way too much coffee) has grown into a team of 17 talented folks. We've got architects who can sketch a concept in minutes, sustainability experts who know every green building trick in the book, and project managers who somehow keep us all on schedule.

Our Philosophy

It's pretty straightforward - make buildings that don't suck in 20 years

Time-Conscious

We design with history in mind and future generations watching. Every choice we make considers what came before and what's coming next.

Actually Sustainable

Not just slapping solar panels on things. We're talking real sustainability - materials, energy, longevity, the whole package.

Human-First

Buildings are for people. Sounds obvious, but you'd be surprised how often that gets forgotten in favor of "bold statements."

Context Matters

Every site has its own story, neighbourhood vibe, and challenges. We listen to the location before we start drawing.

How We Actually Work

Forget the stuffy architectural firm stereotypes. Here's what actually happens when you work with us.

1
We Listen (Really)

First meeting's always casual. Coffee, maybe a walk around the site. We wanna know what you actually need, not what you think architects want to hear.

2
Research Phase

We dig into the neighbourhood history, building codes, environmental factors. Yeah, it's nerdy, but this stuff matters when you're creating something permanent.

3
Sketch & Iterate

We start with rough concepts - nothing fancy. Just ideas on paper. Then we refine based on your feedback. It's collaborative, not dictatorial.

4
Technical Development

Once the concept's locked in, our team gets into the nitty-gritty. Structural engineering, mechanical systems, all that fun stuff that keeps buildings standing.

5
Permits & Approvals

Not glamorous, but necessary. We handle the bureaucracy so you don't have to learn what a "zoning variance" is at 2am.

6
Construction Support

We don't just hand over drawings and disappear. We're on-site regularly, making sure what gets built matches what we designed.

Our Team

The Team

17 people who actually like each other (most days)

We've got architects who've been doing this for 25+ years sitting next to recent grads with fresh perspectives. That mix? That's where the magic happens. The veterans know what works and what doesn't. The newcomers ask "but why?" when we get stuck in our ways.

Our team includes three LEED-accredited professionals, two heritage building specialists, someone who's genuinely obsessed with building codes (thanks, Marcus), and a project coordinator who somehow keeps all our chaos organized.

We do team lunches every Friday, argue about architecture over beers, and genuinely care about making Toronto a better-built city.

Work With Us

Why Toronto?

We're proud to call Queen West home. This city's got layers - Victorian rowhouses next to glass condos, heritage factories turned into lofts, neighbourhoods with century-old stories.

Toronto's constantly evolving, but it's got this incredible architectural heritage that deserves respect. When we design here, we're not just thinking about our client - we're thinking about the street, the block, the neighbourhood character.

Plus, the city's commitment to sustainability and urban density aligns perfectly with what we're trying to do. We're helping shape Toronto's next chapter, one building at a time.

Our Approach

Awards & Recognition

Look, we're not gonna lie - it feels good when people notice your work. We've picked up some hardware over the years:

  • OAA Design Excellence Award (2023)

For the Junction Heritage Loft Conversion

  • Toronto Green Building Award (2022)

    Riverdale Passive House Project

  • Heritage Toronto Award (2021)

    Outstanding Restoration Work

  • AZ Awards Finalist (2020)

    Residential Architecture Category

But honestly? The best recognition is when we drive past a project years later and it still looks good, still works well, and the owners still love it.

Let's Build Something Together

Got a project in mind? Or just wanna chat about architecture over coffee? We're always up for a conversation.
